Frequently Asked Questions

The following are frequently asked questions. If you find that you still require additional information, please contact us by phone at (847) 464-6052 or 301transportation@burlington.k12.il.us.

Where will my bus stop be?

Routing of our school buses is done in the most efficient manner following guidelines consistent with the State of Illinois. Stops are examined for safety, accessibility, and visibility. The backing of buses, entering cul-de-sacs and dead ends are avoided if at all possible. Bus stops are kept to a minimum. Changes or revisions to a bus route are upon approval of the Transportation Director. Drivers do NOT have the authority to make stop changes. Drivers who stop at locations other than established bus stops are in violation of current District policy.

Will the bus stop at my home because I have a kindergartner?

Current bus stops are created for ALL students - grades kindergarten thru 12th grade. Bus stops are generally at major intersections/cross streets. If you live on a highly traveled highway such as Route 20 or Route 47, the bus will pick-up and/or drop-off at your home due to the hazard. Although you may live in a subdivision where there are NO sidewalks, your child will still be required to walk to his/her designated bus stops.

Will you provide transportation for my child to or from a day care?

Students are to be picked up or dropped off at the same address 5 days per week (Monday thru Friday); split plans are not permitted. The following conditions must be met to provide transportation to or from a day care provider; bus capacity allows for extra riders, the day care provider is on an existing route, and address must be within the home school boundaries. If you do not require transportation, who should I call?

If your child does not require bus service due to illness, vacation or any other reasons and the student has an individual bus stop, a courtesy call to the Transportation Department is appreciated. Please note this number is on a 24-hour answering machine, state the child's name & bus # and this information will be radio dispatched to the driver.

Does a parent need to be at the bus stop?

It is a District 301 policy that kindergarten students are not released from the bus unless there is a parent, guardian or older sibling at the stop. This is to ensure the safety of your child. If there is no one available to meet your child at the stop, the driver will notify the school and the student will returned to the school. The school staff will notify the parent/guardian that their child has been returned and needs to be picked up. If you choose to allow your kindergarten student off the bus without a parent/guardian present, a consent form must be completed and will be kept on file in the Transportation Department and their attending school.
