Where will my bus stop be?
Routing of our school buses is done in the most efficient manner following guidelines consistent with the State of Illinois. Stops are examined for safety, accessibility, and visibility. Avoiding backing of buses, entering cul-de-sacs, and dead ends as well as keeping stops to a minimum. Changes or revisions to a bus route are upon approval of the Transportation Director. Drivers do NOT have the authority to make stop changes. Drivers who stop at locations other than established bus stops are in violation of current District policy.
Will the bus stop at my home because I have a kindergartner?
Current bus stops are created for ALL students - grades kindergarten thru 12th grade. Bus stops are generally at major intersections/cross streets. If you live on a highly traveled highway such as Route 20 or Route 47, the bus will pick-up and/or drop-off at your home due to the hazard. Although you may live in a subdivision where there are NO sidewalks, your child will still be required to walk to his/her designated bus stops.
How will I be notified of busing information?
Busing information for 2009-2010 school year will be available on line effective Saturday, August 15, 2009. Please remember bussing information is continually changing due to enrollment. For the most current and up to date bus information for your student view your childs bus schedule on line visitng the districts website www.burlington.k12.il.us; click on Department, choose Transportation, and follow the E-LINK (Bus Schedule). It is suggested to veiw the bussing information on or before August 25th for most up to date bussing schedules. NO postcards will be mailed. Busing information is to and from the home location. If a "Change in Transportation Form" has been submitted, please check the E LINK (Bus Schedule)by entering your home information and the change in transportation will be posted. If your child is enrolled in the early education program or in an out-of-district program, busing information will be made by a phone call or letter by the week of 8/24/09.
Is there a cost for transportation?
District 301 owns and operates its own bus service. Transportation is free of charge to students who live further than 1 1/2 miles from their school. There is no current policy for paid busing.
Can my child ride a different bus route other than his/her assigned bus?
Students should take only the bus they have been assigned. If an emergency occurs, a parent must contact the Transportation Department at (847) 464-6052 to make alternate arrangements.
Will you provide transportation for my child to or from a day care?
Students may be picked up or dropped off at the same address 5 days per week (Monday thru Friday); split plans are not permitted. The following conditions must be met to provide transportation to or from a day care provider: Bus capacity allows for extra riders; The day care provider is on an existing route; and address must be in the home school boundaries. If you require transportation from an address other than your home location, a "Request for Change in CCUSD #301 Transportation Needs for 2009-10 School Year" must be completed and turned in to the Transportation Office on or before Friday, August 7,2009.
If you do not require transportation, who should I call?
If your child does not require bus service due to illness, vacation or any other reasons and the student has an individual bus stop, a courtesy call to the Transportation Department is appreciated. Please note this number is on a 24-hour answering machine, state the child's name & bus # and this information will be radio dispatched to the driver.
Does a parent need to be at the bus stop?
It is strongly encouraged to have a parent or older sibling at the bus stop to help ensure safety at all times. It is currently a District 301 policy that kindergarten students are not released off the bus unless there is a parent or guardian at the stop. This is to ensure the safety of your child at all times. If a parent or guardian is not at the stop, the driver will notify the school and the student will be brought back to school. The school will notify the parent/guardian that their child has been returned to the school and is responsible for picking up their child. If you choose to allow your kindergarten student off the bus without a parent/guardian present, a release form must be filled out and kept on file in the Transportation Department and their attending school.
